Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Heal from trauma, depression, and anxiety with ketamine and IFS therapy.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) with Dr. Beverly Reader

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is a cutting-edge treatment for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. KAP combines the use of ketamine, a psychedelic-like drug with psychotherapy, to help people heal from trauma and emotional wounds.

At The Moment Health, we offer KAP with Dr. Beverly Reader, a board-certified psychiatrist and IFS-informed practitioner, who has completed level-1 training in IFS.

IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a therapeutic model that views the mind as a system of interconnected parts, each with its own unique role and perspective. IFS therapy helps people to identify and understand their different parts, and to develop compassion and acceptance for all of them. This can lead to greater inner harmony and a more fulfilling life.

Dr. Reader has over 17 years of experience in the field of psychiatry and is passionate about using psychedelic medicine to help people heal.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

KAP is a two-part process. First, you will meet with Dr. Reader for a preparation session. During this session, you will discuss your goals for treatment and learn more about what to expect during your ketamine session.

Next, you will receive your ketamine treatment. Ketamine is administered in a variety of ways, including intramuscular injection, nasal spray, and lozenges. At The Moment Health, KAP is usually done via injection or lozenges, but we do offer nasal ketamine treatments as well.

During your ketamine session, you will be monitored by a trained professional. You will likely experience a range of sensations, including altered states of consciousness, insights, and visions.

After your ketamine session, you will meet with Dr. Reader for an integration session. During this session, you will process your experiences during the ketamine session and begin to integrate them into your life.

"I was never able to access any spirituality or spiritual experience which I so greatly desired after my brother’s suicide. I've always been so closed off and built up a wall rather than processing his death."

"Doctor Reader and The Moment Health prioritizes set and setting, and makes you feel comfortable in preparation for the journey. This allowed me to work through my anxiety and depression and I can gladly say my life has not been the same since my ketamine treatments. 10/10   Would recommend treatment for anyone with Depression and or Anxiety."

Dr. Reader is gentle, kind, and effective. Her style of practice feels equally eastern and western- part science, part spirituality. Because of this, I felt very comfortable going into my KAP experience. The journey was expansive and my results felt incredible! After years of struggling with depression I have started to see a light at the end of the tunnel. With each KAP season My mood improves and stabilizes for quite some time. I have sent a few friends to her who feel the same way.

Dr. Beverly Reader

Beverly Reader, MD, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist, who has been in practice for 17 years. She completed her residency at Georgetown University. During her training, she intensely studied various forms of psychotherapy and spirituality, both for her own healing journey and to improve her skills as a physician.

Dr. Reader established a psychiatric practice within a nonprofit mental health clinic organization for inner city HIV+/AIDS patients, worked at the D.C. Jail, and had a large private practice. As she was exposed to patients with many forms of psychiatric issues spanning all demographics, the commonality among most, if not all, was some form of a trauma history that was unhealed. She believes these unhealed parts are asking to be met with empathy, compassion, and without judgment, or they will eventually manifest in the forms of addiction, mental illness, or disease.

Currently, Dr. Reader practices psychopharmacology with the UCLA Faculty Practice Group in the Rolling Hills Estates location. In private practice, in addition to medications and psychotherapy, she practices Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). She utilizes the effects of ketamine with an Internal Family Systems informed approach as she is completing her training as a level one certified IFS practitioner. Dr. Reader has also trained in MDMA-assisted psychotherapy and has a great area of interest in psychedelic medicines in general. More information can be found on her personal website: www.beverlyareadermd.com
